Using the EPG (Electronic Programme Guide)
EPG provides programme schedules and information for DAB stations that broadcast it.
If a station belongs to a multiplex which has EPG available, an EPG icon is displayed next to
the station name. Programme schedules are displayed when sufficient information has been
received.
If the schedules are updated or you tune to a station in another multiplex with EPG, then the
schedules are refreshed so there may be a delay in displaying them.
If you use an SD card, it can be used to store the EPG information, enabling you to switch
between stations on different multiplexes without losing the information.
Without an SD card fitted, the information is lost if you change multiplex and you will need to
wait until the information is refreshed.
Note Updates are occasionally saved to the card and while saving you see a message and
temporarily cannot use buttons. To cancel the updates hold down the Menu button.
If you have switched on energy saving mode, EPG updates will not be saved to SD card
in standby in order to reduce power consumption. For more information see page 15.

Lists stations in groups according to their multiplex.
Removes inactive stations from the station list.
DAB audio
Apply DRC or VET to DAB stations.
DRC makes the quieter sounds in a broadcast easier to hear at low volume or in a noisy
environment. The DRC (Dynamic Range Control) level of a broadcast is set by the station and
sent with the signal. Check with the broadcasters to find out if they use DRC on their stations.
VET (Volume Equalisation Technology) helps level volume levels across different stations
making each sound as if it is at the same volume. It does this by constantly monitoring the
stations on your station list and lowering or raising their volume to meet an optimum level.
Note Use of DRC would distort the levelling effect so DRC is disabled when VET is on.

reception.
Using an SD memory card
You can use an SD card for recording* and playing back DAB digital radio or playing MP2/ MP3
files recorded elsewhere. As a rough guide – a 2GB card will give you around 30 hours of DAB
recording time from a 128 kbps broadcast data rate.
Note EVOKE-3 records files to SD cards in MP2 format. You may need to use a computer to
convert these files to a different format if you wish to use them in another SD card device.
Inserting and removing a card
To insert an SD memory card, push the card label side up into the slot on
the front panel with the gold pins towards the rear of the unit until it clicks.
To remove a card push the card in and it will pop out so you can remove it.
Note It is not recommended that you remove a card when the SD light is lit.
Recording DAB radio
You can record DAB radio* to SD card.
1. Press the Record button to start recording. You see the record icon ( ) flashing.
2. Press the Record button again to stop recording. You see the time, date and filename
that the recording has been saved under. The filename is made up of the month, date
and time. e.g. 10141020.mp2 means October the 14th, starting at 10:20 am. The
recording also stores the station and multiplex. DAB recordings are saved in a ‘TRACKS’
folder on your SD card so they can be found easily.
Note You can also set up a DAB recording in advance, or for a particular programme using the
EPG, see page 8, or a timed event as described on page 13.

Turn the Tune knob and push to accept a setting and move to the next. Set the time, duration,
day, station and one of the following actions: Save to SD card, Send to digital out, Tune in, or
Cancel to return to the list without setting an event.
You see a clock symbol on the screen if a record event is set or a musical note symbol if a ‘Tune
in’ event is set. A crossed out clock is shown if an event is not due in the next 24 hours.
Changing a timed event
Menu > Alarm/timer > Timed events
1. Select the event you want to change.
2. Select Set to change the event settings or Off to delete the event from the list.
Cancelling a timed event
If a ‘Tune in’ event is underway you can cancel the end time of the event by pressing any
button. A record event can be cancelled by pressing the Record button.
Setting a sleep timer
You can set a sleep timer after which EVOKE-3 will switch itself into standby mode. You can
also set a sleep timer from standby which will switch the radio on first.
Press the Sleep button or Menu > Alarm/timer > Sleep time
Select a sleep time of 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes or select Off to set no sleep time.
Return to the Sleep menu again to view the time remaining or to change the sleep time again.
Using a ChargePAK®/batteries
As an alternative to mains power you can use six size C’ alkaline or rechargeable batteries or use
the PURE ChargePAK rechargeable battery pack. When charge is low the battery icon flashes. Note
Always disconnect the radio from mains power supply before fitting or removing a ChargePAK or
batteries, your settings will be retained.
Using a ChargePAK
ChargePAK is a rechargeable battery pack which plugs into the socket in your radios battery
compartment. Whenever your radio is connected to a mains supply the ChargePAK will be
charging. When charging a ChargePAK the battery icon will be animated and when fully
charged the icon disappears. A complete charge should take around 10 hours in standby. To
purchase the correct ChargePAK model for your EVOKE-3, contact your nearest PURE dealer,
visit the shop on our website at www.pure.com or call the PURE order line on 0845 045
1122.

EcoPlus
Energy saving
EVOKE-3 is part of the PURE EcoPlus product family, designed and manufactured to minimise
power consumption when the unit is switched on and to use less than 1 Watt in standby. Two
options are available:
Energy saving On
Select On’ to switch on the energy saving standby mode. The radio will enter a low power
standby mode 70 seconds after you press the Standby button. Energy saving standby mode
disables the following non-essential standby functions in order to save power:
EPG schedule information is not collected in standby. However, when the radio is
switched on and you tune to a DAB station the radio updates EPG schedules for all the
stations that broadcast an EPG in the Multiplex (group of stations) to which the station
belongs. For example, if you tune to a BBC station in the BBC National DAB multiplex,
EPG schedules for all the BBC stations in that multiplex will be regularly updated where
available.
The remote control does not operate in standby (it will not switch the radio on) but can
still be used to cancel a sounding alarm.
The display is disabled in standby and you cannot access the standby menu. The clock is
updated and all alarms and record timers that you have set will still sound from standby.
If you fit the optional ChargePAK (see page 13) the unit will always switch into energy saving
standby mode when you press the Standby button, as long as the unit is not connected to
mains power. Any alarms that are set will still sound.
Energy saving Off
Select Off’ to switch off the energy saving standby mode. If an SD card is fitted, EVOKE-3
regularly collects EPG schedule information in standby from all the multiplexes that broadcast
it, which increases standby power consumption. The remote control, standby menu and
display all operate in standby.
Hints and Tips
(>>/<<) DAB Secondary services
Secondary services accompany some stations, providing extra information or alternative content
and may only be broadcast at certain times. If a station has secondary services available, the
station shows ‘>>’ next to its name in the station list and the secondary service appears next to
the station in the list. A secondary service has a ‘<<’ before its name in the station list.
(?) Inactive or unavailable DAB stations
Inactive or unavailable stations are those which appear on the station list but are not currently
available. Inactive stations have a ‘?before their name on the station list. If you select a station
which has this symbol, your radio tries to tune in or returns to the previous station.
Display says No stations available’
Try adjusting your aerial or radio position. Use Autotune to search for stations.
I cant delete a folder on the SD card
This may happen if there are other non-MP3/ MP2 files in that folder. You can view these files and
delete them, if required using a PC to access the SD card.
My recording has a strange name
This can happen if you modify a recording initially set up from EPG as it will use the programme
name originally selected. In this situation it is recommended that you set up a new recording rather
than modifying an existing one.

Resetting your radio
Resetting your EVOKE-3 removes all presets, stored stations and favourite stations and alarm/
timer settings and resets all options to defaults. To reset:
1. Press and hold the Menu button for three seconds. The screen shows ‘Do you want to reset?.
2. Select OK to reset or Cancel to exit without resetting.
