PREPARATION
Your personal alarm requires one 12-volt
battery (not supplied) for power. For the
best performance and longest life, we rec-
ommend an alkaline battery, such as Ra-
dioShack Cat. No. 23-144.
Caution:
Use only a fresh battery of the
required size and recommended type.
The personal alarm’s battery compart-
ment is concealed beneath the photo and
its transparent protective cover. Open the
alarm’s case and slide off the protective
cover and the paper picture behind it.

Then follow these steps to install the bat-
tery.
1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove
the screw from the battery compart-
ment cover, then remove the cover.
5

2. Be sure the wrist strap’s plug is firmly
inserted into the personal alarm’s
jack. Then place the battery in the
compartment as indicated by the
polarity symbols (+ and –) marked
inside.

3. Replace the cover, then reinsert and
tighten the screw.
You can put a photo or anything else of
that size in the holder. Then place the pro-
tective cover over it.
7

We recommend you test the alarm period-
ically (see “Operation” on Page 9) to be
sure it operates properly. If the volume is
low or the tone sounds different than usu-
al, replace the battery.
Cautions:
• Always remove an old or weak bat-
tery. Batteries can leak chemicals that
can destroy electronic parts.
• Dispose of an old battery promptly
and properly. Do not burn or bury it.

OPERATION
To sound the alarm, pull the wrist strap
until its plug pulls out of the personal
alarm’s jack.
Caution:
The alarm is very loud. If you
want to test it, be sure you warn people

who are nearby before you pull the wrist
strap. To muffle the sound during the test,
press the bottom of the personal alarm
against a sound absorbing surface (a pil-
low, for example).
To stop the alarm, simply reinsert the wrist
strap’s plug into the personal alarm’s jack.
